On this episode, I’m joined by Ella Lambert, founder of The Pachamama Project, a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation making and distributing reusable sanitary pads to refugees around the world and growing a network of volunteers around the UK to make them.
Ella came up with the idea for Pachamama during the Covid lockdown in July 2020.
Armed with some extra time and an ambition to make a positive impact on the world, she, and her university friend, Oliwia Geisler (from Poland), got to work collecting fabric from the local community, learning how to sew, and recruiting volunteers.
Period poverty is a global issue, but the pandemic has shone a light on the most vulnerable in society. Ella and her team at The Pachamama Project believe that having your period should not be a challenge and actively encourage young people in the UK, who may be interested in working in the not-for-profit sector in the future, to get involved with Pachamama and build their skillset.
