Spring Into Action! A Checklist For Homeowners

Spring is in full swing, and before we know it, summer will be here. If you’re counting down the days until warmer climes arrive and you can hang out with friends and family, here is a handy checklist to get your home ready.

Spring is synonymous with cleaning and decluttering. Many of us have spent most of our time at home in the last 12 months, and as a result, we may have accumulated more stuff than usual. If your spare rooms are now offices, your garage is full of bikes or home gym equipment and your attic is packed to the rafters, now is the time to plan a clear out. Tackle each room and create piles of items you want to keep, throw away, donate and sell. Try to recycle, upcycle or donate anything that is still in good condition and find homes for items you want to keep. If storage is a problem, there are solutions. You can utilise wall space to hang shelves and units, you can use boxes, crates and tubs to store toys and shoes and you can investigate innovative concepts like hidden drawers, furniture that has in-built storage and pull-out shelves and racks.

Temperature control

The weather can be unpredictable and this makes it hard to get the temperature just right. One day, you might be turning on the heating and sitting on the sofa with a blanket around you, the next it may be boiling. It’s a great idea to look into ways to control the temperature in your home. You can use a thermostat and consider options like installing an air conditioning unit or fitting ceiling fans. If you already have air conditioning, it’s wise to arrange a service before warmer climes arrive to minimise the chances of needing an emergency 24 hour AC service. You can also keep warm on cooler days by scattering blankets and throws on couches and beds and adding a fire pit or a patio heater to your outdoor yard or garden.

Many of us love nothing more than sitting in the garden on a summer’s day. The trouble is that when spring arrives, the winter weather has usually taken its toll and our gardens look a little sad and drab. Use the next few weeks to get your garden ready. Clear away dead leaves and debris, tidy up patios and walkways, mow the grass on dry days and remove weeds from planters, flower beds, and pathways. If you’re hoping to entertain this spring/summer, create a seating area, add an awning or a gazebo to provide shelter from showers, and keep snug after dark with blankets and patio heaters. It’s also a great idea to use outdoor lighting to add ambience and to invest in portable speakers to listen to your favourite playlists

Spring is finally here and summer is just around the corner! If you’re looking forward to enjoying warmer climes, now is the time to get your home ready. Spring clean, declutter, get the temperature just right and make sure your outdoor space is primed for visitors.
