I came across an article in The New York Times the other day, the title read, “Powerful Hollywood Women Unveil Anti-Harassment Action Plan”. As soon as I read the title I thought, damn this is like the film, The First Wives Club!
I’m glad that over 300 women (well known actresses, directors, agents, producers and entertainment executives) have come together to create something so revolutionary that we have to call it The Age Of The Powerful Woman.
This new venture, is helping without a voice, women who aren’t famous enough to be instantly believable by their claims, and this matters because, women like Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman have backed the campaign entitled, ‘Times up’.
The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. It’s time to do something about it.
The campaign mascoting word, “solidarity”.
TIME’S UP is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere. From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live.
As a woman myself, I feel this is such an important issue that women all over the world should feel safe in their own skin, and this extends to women in work, maybe you’re in bed with your partner, out shopping, taking your kids to school, meeting friends for dinner or even on a night out, its all of it, duh!
The real message here is that everyone should feel equal and respected. Women are often labelled vulnerable well, with campaigns like ‘Times up’, more women can feel empowered and safe in their lives.
I also think it’s great that directors like, Steven Spielberg are donating, this sends such a positive message of how we should treat one and other, and how healthy relationships can do great things.
I’m eager to hear your stories of empowerment.
