The importance of being water

Good evening folks!

So it’s been a few weeks since I’ve been back in the UK and currently I’m suffering from a little post travel flu (it’s not actually that bad but my neighbour’s lack of volume control on his stereo is making it feel worse), anyways! I’m feeling a little under the weather and I can’t help but feel its a little break upyyy…if that makes sense?

Don’t get me wrong, I miss the freedom of travelling and seeing new places and meeting people from all over the world but, every time I’m back I also feel renewed as if I’m seeing something that’s always been there like a lake near my house or the beach down the road but I’m viewing it all brand new and that’s a great feeling. I think we should all break up with our lives every now and again and (don’t always quit your job), but buy a ticket to an island somewhere that you’ve never been and live. Your life isn’t safe, none of it is (sorry!) you can’t worry about what will happen because I don’t know about you, but I didn’t wake up and suddenly gain powers and see the future. However, fear is something real that you can either hold on to or let go. Just let go for a minute or two and decide to see your life with a new, clearer lens…better?

I tell you, when you’ve been on a plane just the once, touched down at your destination and travelled by yourself it feels like such a journey already, that when you’ve checked into your hotel, reapplied your sun screen and grabbed your apocalypse bag (every woman has one of these, they’re called handbags – everything you need incase the world inconveniently ends ha!) that when you’re trolling about in the streets of Ubud, it’s kind of through this half dehydrated half excited view, and due to this being your first solo mission thousands of miles away, you’re trying to make the most of every second and forgetting to do the most important thing of all when travelling – DRINK!

Yes! This was me a few weeks ago, I’d touched down at my hotel in Ubud, Bali, fresh out of turning 25 and still walking with the worst jet lag i’ve ever had but never the less exploring this new country.

Birthday card from my family that was hidden in my suitcase and a welcome chia drink from the hotel. Yeah, I love cats!

I think from that day onwards I always carried in my backpack a 2L bottle of water. I feel drinking water throughout the day is more important than your passport sometimes!

Drinking water is so good for your skin, your body is made up of 60% water and you lose it through sweat and excess fluids throughout the day so its important to keep topping it up, especially in a hot climate like Bali.

Water is good for mobility and general function of a healthy brain and I think it’s especially important to remain healthy as I was travelling alone. Healthy levels of H20 is something I feel is vital during my day to day life in the UK too – I think as a beauty blogger I can’t expect all my products to do all the work, I’ve got to do some of the leg work myself too and that starts by what I’m putting into my body.

I’m also keeping conscious of my pee colour (yeah, I know it’s gross!) but the darker your pee colour, the more dehydrated you are. Check out this great article in Elle with a helpful grid!

I found this great illustration from Top Ten Home

It’s like when your bogies go yellow, you know something’s up with your health!

So back to me moaning about being a poorly bear…I should probably take some more probiotics and drink more water! Fingers crossed this does the trick. I hate paracetamols or any kind of drug…they’re just not my friends at all and have such bad side effects.

And as I write this, I’ve remembered that its just two days until I have to write the most important notes of my life in a lecture on Monday…SHIIIIITAKE MUSHROOMS!

So I plan to tackle this next year with either the gym (which starts when I get my grant…) or kick boxing, which will both be interesting concepts in my fitness blog.

I have a lot of friends that are HEAVY into their fitness and I think whilst I’m below 30, and that theres so many things I want to do being that ripe old age; I think being in the best shape of my life is a great big tick off my list.

I’ve already crossed solo travelling off and why not being proud of my body too?

HOPEFULLY I won’t be in a comatose state and be atleast 90% germ free by Wednesday so I can also be blogging about local finds in affordable shops in my area. I think this will be a great addition to the blog with brands like Accessorize, Topshop, H&M and River Island literally in the next town over.
